My Job as a Bookkeeper...Literally.

I have been employed as a store clerk of a bookshop. It was the best job so far for me! Yeah, yeah! Bookkeeping is an accounting job and, yes, I am an accountant - a CPA actually. But literally speaking, I'm keeping books...literary works of authors known and unknown (yet). Our bookstore is a dandy shop that sells not textbooks and books college students and highschool students need. No, we don't sell books about Geometry, Mathematics or Astrology, though there may be times that the shop holds them. What we sell are non-fiction and fiction books, secondhand or brand new. We sell artworks made my local artists and cute stationery items that many people would rather buy than chocolates. I'm already an employee for 20 days and I have met a lot of people, many of them artists and foreigners. They described the bookshop friendly, warm and "has a personality". The way they say it, the bookshop is like a person, a Kindle, a spiritual deity or an individual.

One time, there was one customer who have asked almost everything about the bookshop. Who are the owners, how the bookshop was born and how things go by during the days. I was, "huh?". I searched for signs of a camera and a microphone, thinking that this may be an ambush interview...but no suspicious thingies sticking out from the pockets or jacket. No bag and no invisible bags. I answered what I could, limiting my answer to what was only allowed of us to tell the people. The person listened, looking amazed. "I love this bookshop!" the person exclaimed. Again, I was waiting for a camera to pop out of nowhere, but the person was just smiling...(To my mind I ask "God, is this you?").

The person didn't buy books, took picture or did something to financially add something to our cashbox. The person only browsed books, laughed a little and kept on smiling. Then after some minutes, this person went back to the counter, thanked me and left smiling.

That kinda made me smile. The shop really has a personality. There was something therapeutic in it. I dunno if it's because of Bach (his music is being played in the bookshop while the person was browsing).

Hmmm...I'm still discovering the other mysteries of this bookshop.
